I watch shows in languages ALL THE TIME for the past SEVEN YEARS with subtitles in English and language in Japanese. I've picked up the words Princess and Flower, but besides that, not at all. Perhaps watching the show without subtitles when you've already taken several language classes can benefit you but besides that, it doesn't do a thing. I disagree completely. When people are watching television, it is like listening to a full speed conversation in that other language. If you spend hours and hours listening to another language, of course that will dramatically improve your listening skills. I completely agree with the premise of your post!!
