If the teacher is boring and usual, it is not very fun unless you are really passionate about that subject. It depends on the ways people learn. I had to learn french all year and I found it very boring. When I actually started to give it a try by studying on my own, I found it somewhat interesting. But I am deciding to quit french anyways because I don't want another 3 years in boring classes. Here in the US, you don't actually have a choice for a want-to in academic classes which sucks. So it basically is on how your teacher's style of teaching. Ultimately, I think it just comes down to the teacher.
